What is "Memory Foam"?

The special characteristic of this type of foam, called "visco-elastic" or memory foam, is that it is very dense, to cushion your body. Heat from your body helps this material to mould to your body to greatly reduce pressure points such as those on your hips and shoulders. There really is no other material that conforms and moulds to your body in this way. While it was originally developed for NASA, visco-elastic foam has been used in the medical industry for years to help alleviate pressure sores and increase patient comfort. Until recently, however, it was very expensive and really only used as a specialty medical device. In the last few years, it has finally become more affordable and available on the consumer market through the introduction of our ComfortSleep version of this foam. The ComfortSleep range of pillows and mattress overlays are 1/4 the price of similar Visco Elastic products.

What makes visco elastic pillows better than conventional feather or fibre fill pillows?

Unlike conventional pillows, visco elastic pillows will not go flat while you sleep.  Conventional fibre fill, chipped foam  fill or feather filled pillows will go flat as you sleep requiring constant adjusting and fluffing up.  A visco elastic pillow moulds to the shape of your head and neck, constantly adjusting as you sleep providing support all night long.  You get a more restfull sleep, no fluffing or adjusting required.

When my visco elastic pillow and overlay arrived they where very hard.  Why?

One of the characteristics of visco elastic foam is it's reaction to temperature.  Cold temperature makes the foam much firmer.  Once the foam is exposed to room temperature and your body heat the foam will become supple and supportive.  You should allow up to an hour at room temperature to allow the foam to soften before use.

Can your ComfortSleep Visco Elastic Mattress be used on a slatted base bed?

Yes, the mattress can be used on a slatted bed.

Why is your ComfortSleep Visco Elastic Mattress so much cheaper than Tempur?

In the last few years the price of visco elastic foam has come down considerably and we are passing these savings on to our customers.  We use high quality visco elastic foam and the mattress is finished with a luxury quilted, removable cover. The question should be  "Why is the Tempur Pedic mattress so expensive?"

Can I return the mattress if I am not happy with it?

Yes you can.  Like all our products, it comes with a satisfaction guarantee.  Just keep the plastic inner bag the mattress comes in.  The cost for picking up the mattress is £30.

Can the Toppers or Mattresses be used with an electric blanket?

Yes, visco elastic foam can be used with an electric blanket.

Can visco elastic foam be dry cleaned or mashine washed?

Do not mashine wash or dry clean visco elastic foam.  You can only spot wash the foam by hand and let dry naturaly on a flat surface.  Do not place into a dryer.

What size ComfortSleep Pillow should I buy?

This is a matter of personal preference.  Unlike conventioanl pillows that go flat, visco elastic pillows will provide support and comfort throughout the night.  The size depends on your size of  head and shoulders.  Most people benefit from the ComfortSleep regular size pillow, a larger framed person should consider the ComfortSleep medium or large pillow.

What does ergonomic mean?

'Ergonomics' is the science of designing environments and products to match the individuals who use them. The word 'ergonomics' comes from the Greek 'ergon' meaning 'work' and 'nomos' meaning 'law'.

"Fitting the worker to the job not the job to the worker."

  • Fitting the job to the worker through task design and procedures
  • Fitting the worker to the job through the use of proper placement procedures and training.

It should be noted "What works for one worker may not work for another, so it's important to emphasize individual solutions." Your basic knowledge of ergonomics is a prevention of physical damage or injuries that may occur. With this knowledge it will enhance performance and comfort, rather than waiting until damage does occur. Remember you do have limits and your work environment should be designed so that you can function within these limits.

What is the frame in the OBUSFORME made from and how does it help me?

The bio mechanically moulded frame in the OBUSFORME back rests and seat is constructed from polycarbonate.  It is both firm and flexible.  The frame flexis vertically to adapt to your shape but maintains its S-shape horizontally to promote proper posture.  The cradling effect of the frame allows your lower back muscles to rest, reducing back pain. The frame is guaranteed for life against breakage.
