Memory Foam Mattress

Memory foam mattresses have now become far more popular and widely available in the domestic bed market. If you are looking to buy a memory foam mattress you might have discovered that they are now available in different grades. These grades are called densities. The density of memory foam is calculated in Kilograms per cubic metre. This basically means that if a mattress has a memory foam layer with a density of 50Kg then a block of 50kg memory foam in a metre cube weighs 50kg. A block of 40kg memory foam of the same size for example would weigh 40kg. The higher the density of memory foam the smaller the air bubbles will be in the foams structure. This is not always an advantage as this can cause heat build-up within the mattress.

Memory foam has the ability to react to the heat given off by your body, if the density of the memory foam is too high the air holes in the foam become very tiny and this reduces the ability of the foam to breath. Heat will then get trapped within the foams structure which can cause you to overheat during the night. We recommend that for an ideal combination of support and comfort a memory foam density of between 40Kg and 65kg is ideal for a comfortable nights sleep. Our range of ComfortSleep Memory Foam Mattresses has a density of 60kg. The memory foam and support foam is made in UK by Vitafoam and meets all relevant fire and safety regulations

When choosing a Memory foam mattress you will also need take into consideration the depth of memory foam that the mattress contains. Some mattresses have as little as 1cm of memory foam material on the top surface. This will not provide any benefit associated with memory foam. To experience the true quality of the memory foam you will need to choose a mattress with at least 5cm of memory foam, however a depth of 7.5 cm to 10cm is recommended for maximum support and pressure relief. Please bear in mind that 40kg memory foam will not offer as much support as 60kg memory foam and will not perform as well over time. If you are a back sufferer or have a medical condition such as Arthritis it will be well worth purchasing the best mattress that you can afford. Our memory foam mattresses are available with 5cm, 7.5cm or 10cm of 60kg memory foam providing firm, medium or soft support.

Our memory foam is an open cell which keeps heat retention to a minimum. When combined with a slatted bed the memory foam mattress is not much warmer than a conventional sprung mattress. It is important to remember that a memory foam mattress needs to retain some of your body heat to provide the moulding properties that make it so comfortable.

Additionally all our memory foam mattresses are covered with a Stay Cool cover. The open weave design of the material allows heat to pass through helping to keep you cooler. If you still find the mattress to be a bit too warm why not switch to a summer duvet (4.5 tog) all year round.

Where will Memory Foam benefit me?

Memory Foam is endorsed by doctors worldwide - if you think a memory foam mattress or overlay would medically benefit you why not speak to your doctor.

There are areas of the body that can be affected by a build up of pressure caused by lying on an unsuitable mattress surface.

  2. Shoulders - Proper bed posture can help to avoid the risk of fibrosis’s in shoulder muscles
  3. Pelvic Area - The support from memory foam gently cradles the pelvic area avoiding aching or pain
  4. Calves - By evenly spreading pressure you can prevent circulatory problems which can cause swollen calves and feet
